Introduction to Loud Speaker:

The advanced loudspeaker is just an electronic device that generates audible audio signals from electric signal. Such a simply features as both a transducer, going to convert electrical power into mechanical power to produce audio energy by causing air sound waves.

A spherical diaphragm, a voice coil, a magnet, and a structure make up the components of a traditional speaker system. The diaphragm has been normally connected to the frame and also is formed of lighter weight substances such as paper, pvc, or rebar. When a current travels through the voice coil, it engages with magnetic field generated by magnetic and create a pressure which moves the diaphragm backward and forward between. The voice winding usually coiled around with a former connected to a diaphragm. Sounds waves are generated by it movement and travel through all the environment.


In home cinema setups and audio playback devices through public announcement devices & commercial sound equipment, speakers have available in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and layouts. Speakers can provide method to producing electric signals to sound which can be heard & understand, make him an essential element in sound systems.

Structure of Loud Speaker:

The construction of Loud speaker may be vary according to its design and model but its consist of main following components.

Diaphragm: The main element of a loudspeaker which produces sound.  It's usually connected to speaker's structure & made with lightest substances such as paper, plastic, or metal.

Echo Coil:  This diaphragm would be linked to the coil that’s also wound around with a shaft also as voice coil. The vocal coil produces a strong magnetic field whenever an ac output being introduced to this. The strong magnetic reacts with magnetic and generate a force which causes the diaphragm to consider moving back and forwards, creating audio signals.

Magnets : this magnet may be Permanent or Electro magnet, it produce electric flux . Sound waves are created by vocal coil's interactions with magnetic flux.

Frame or Basket: The speaker's frames or basket holds its diaphragm & keeps the speaker's components altogether.

Spider: The vocal coil is attached to a speaker's framework by the an elastic component called  spider which also helps in placing the vocal coil in the magnetic gap.

Surround: The surround would be a elastic part which links the edges of speaker's diaphragm to its own framework and helps with regulating the motion within it.

Dust Cap: a tiny component which protects and serves to protect the diaphragm's core.

Working Principle:

The electrical signals in a loudspeaker cause the diaphragm to move back and forth and thus produce sound.  The diaphragm moves due to electromagnetic induction.  The diaphragm is connected to a coil.  The electric current flowing through the coil creates a magnetic field, which interacts with the permanent magnet and causes the diaphragm to move.  The direction of motion depends on the direction of current.

Identical poles of two magnets repel each other, while opposing poles attract each other.  When identical poles are close to each other, the coil and diaphragm move forward.  When the direction of the current changes and therefore the opposing poles are close to each other, the diaphragm moves backwards.

Smaller diaphragms make louder sounds, while larger diaphragms make louder sounds.  So high-quality loudspeakers are three-way speakers, consisting of three drivers: a large woofer, a small mid-range driver, and a small Twitter.  Incoming electric signals are separated by audio crossover in different frequency ranges suitable for each driver.
